World Series Game 7 Captures 51 Million Audience Members In the US, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling extended contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined over 50 million spectators across the US, Canada, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball announced this is the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched World Series matchup after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a 16% improvement over the last finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, Game 4 ranked 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game drew 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English program in Canada since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game started at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – drew over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the opening game telecast on Univision, the total US average was over 16 million. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09M watchers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and the network’s best playoff performance after the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
